Who can do it?

You can take a Teach International TESOL course if:

you are at least 18 years old and have finished high school or had equivalent work experience
you are literate and are a native English speaker, or speak English fluently with minimal accent
you are interested in travel and other cultures
you are comfortable with strangers and have good social skills

Is English your second language?

ESL speakers with a high level of English are welcome to take our TESOL courses. Many have done so succesfully. We will usually require evidence of your level of English, such as an IELTS or TOEFL exam result, depending on where you are.

Do you have a passport from a country where English is not the first language?

If you are fluent in English with minimal accent, but do not have a passport from a native English speaking country, you may still be able to teach English overseas. We have many students who take the course in order to teach EFL/ESL back in their own country. Some are interested in teaching friends and relatives. Still others are interested in opening their own schools or pursuing other entrepreneurial ventures. What are your motivations? Perhaps you would like to volunteer in other countries?

Without a passport from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, or South Africa, it may be difficult for you to secure an overseas job before you go. However, if you speak excellent English, are friendly and present yourself well, your chances of finding a teaching position increase dramatically if you continue your search in the country where you want to teach. There are some countries more open to this than others. Ask your trainer for advice.

Once you have gained some EFL/ESL teaching experience - even if it is volunteer - it will become increasingly easy to find teaching positions. Experience is not only the best teacher, but it is also your door to opportunity!
