Sam in Turkey

Sam with classHow times flies! It only seems like yesterday that we shared those 5 fantastic days discovering that if you ask the right questions in life, endless opportunities await!

As mentioned, I flew to Ýstanbul pretty much a week after I completed the TESOL course and started work within my first week. Teaching pre-school came naturally for me; my four-year olds and I got on like a house on fire! My lesson plans and different style of teaching became a talking point within the whole school, to the degree where I was asked to train new teachers and construct all new curriculum for the pre-school (ages 3-6 consisting of 8 classes of 20 children).

Field tripAs I was employed with only 3 months left in the teaching year I was happy to be given such a warm welcome and fantastic opportunities; needless to say I made quite a lot of new friends and became a respected member of the core management structure of the school in a very short period of time!

My students can all count to 100 in English, know the alphabet and at least five words beginning with each letter, can ask basic questions and request all immediate needs (permission to go to the toilet, asking for water, etc.) in English and some can even read… most of my babies are only four years old!

In classI have been requested to manage and co-ordinate 10 pre-school classes at a new campus beginning in September this year. My wage has tripled and all the trimmings added (accommodation, laptop, mobile phone, private health insurance and paid leave). I will also be in charge of hiring new teachers from across the globe, so you can direct any potential candidates who wish to live in Ýstanbul my way (starting wage is 1300 US plus accommodation).
