VIETNAM
Vietnam is a country of contrasts. People are drawn to Vietnam’s
natural beauty which includes lush, green rice
paddy fields along the coastal strip, beautiful sandy beaches and the
Red River Delta in the north, as well as inland mountain ranges. Vietnam
also offers visitors the bustling cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Da
Nang, which are jammed with bicycles and people and which offer travellers
an insight into the modern and rapidly developing Vietnamese city life.
Hanoi
in the north of Vietnam has been the capital
for about one thousand years and is becoming
a modernised city as the country enters into the free market after 30
years under strict Communist rule.
Hanoi’s
pace of life is slower than Ho Chi Minh, and
visitors enjoy seeing the traditional temples,
pagodas, palaces and imperial mausoleums.
Despite its population of 5 million people, Ho Chi Minh City (also still known by locals as Saigon), is not large in area and as such still maintains a small town atmosphere. As a reminder of the previous French rule are the narrow streets and tree-lined boulevards filled with old colonial villas. The more traditional Vietnamese culture can be experienced along the Mekong Delta of the south where locals gather to sell their wares of fruit and vegetables, pottery, spices and local cuisine from wooden boats in the daily markets.
Vietnam’s ESL market is experiencing tremendous growth and is a great option for first-time teachers. What are you waiting for?!
A TESOL certificate is your ticket to many great teaching positions
and a salary that allows for a good lifestyle
and local travel.
To teach in Vietnam, a TESOL certificate is a must. English teachers in Vietnam are offered salaries of US$800-1000 per month (approximately AU$1050-1300 / NZ$1120-1400). Teachers will need to fund their own flights, but usually accommodation is offered. The best aspect of the Vietnamese ESL market…? The students, of course! Friendly, delightful and hard-working!
Comprehensive country guides are available for all Teach International students and graduates. These guides include helpful information on the ESOL market, visa requirements, cost of living, salaries, and numerous web links referring you to more helpful advice on accommodation, employment and media in the country where you are headed.
