EGYPT

To The Land Of Pyramids And Pharaohs

Camel ride through the pyramidsIt was my study of ancient history that brought about my fascination and dream of one day seeing the Pyramids and Egypt. Recently I had the opportunity to realise my dream and I wasn't disappointed - it was all and more than I ever expected.
The two most important things to Egyptians are the Nile and the sun. With a history and architecture that captures the imagination of all who see and experience it, the ancient Egyptians had a sophisticated civilization with their own unique mythology, mummification, hieroglyphics, and rituals that fascinate and endure to this day. Egyptian buildingsTheir architectural prowess and ingenuity has left a fine legacy for the world to still see. Pyramids that tower majestically in the desert sands are surrounded still by the question: 'How was it possible to build such structures in those times?' The sense of mystery remains, an ever-present reminder of some of the most important achievements in human history.

I stood and looked in awe at the architectural magnificence of ruins in and around Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel. Egypt today still pulses with its past achievements and range of landscapes - from the rich lifeblood of the Nile and its banks to the stark stretches of desert oases, and the magnificent Red Sea famous for its reef and colourful array of beautiful marine life.

The pyramidsIf you want to discover the splendour of a civilization that goes back in time 3,000 years, there are ESL opportunities mainly in Cairo and Alexandria, the business and economic centres of Egypt. It is quite an established ESL area and I was surprised at how many Egyptians speak English in the major cities. Living expenses are cheap and taxes are low.

Happy travels! As the Egyptians might say, God willing! Ma'as salaama!
