Company History
Teach International first commenced operations in 2000 in New Zealand as a teacher recruitment program for positions in South Korea. The founder and owner of the business, Adam Morehouse, had worked for many years teaching English in Korea and recognised the growing demand for native English speakers around the world.
Teach International Foundation TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses commenced in late 2001 in New Zealand, and then in May 2002 in Australia. Courses were first run in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and, over a short space of time, were then offered in most capital cities throughout Australia.
The company enjoyed strong growth over the next two years, and in late 2004 Teach International had two additional courses accredited by the Accreditation Authority of the Dept of Employment and Training Queensland – Certificate III (30502QLD) and Certificate IV (30476QLD) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In mid 2005, the company became a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), and delivery of the new certificate courses commenced.
In late 2005 Teach International was training around 1200-1500 people per year to become teachers of English overseas. Throughout 2006 the company cemented its position as a leader in the provision of TESOL training in Australasia In 2007, Teach International expanded to more Australian locations and ventured back to New Zealand, through its licensee in Auckland. Plans for 2008 will see the company expanding to include overseas locations and offering a greater variety of short courses and in-house services to its customers.
In 2008 Teach International confirmed its place as a true innovator in the delivery of its training options by taking its courses offshore to Vietnam and Thailand. This overseas exposure enabled students to experience the real culture of a foreign country first-hand. The opportunity to meet with real employers to negotiate a teaching contract, whilst completing one of the accredited courses available, meant that graduates of the Teach International program were even better equipped to compete in the growing TESOL market.
2009 is set to be Teach International’s most exciting year yet! An exciting line-up of overseas Destination courses has been scheduled, with a range of new in-house services to customers.
